In this letter Mathilde Beckmann thanks Lilly von Schnitzler for the gift of an icon. This icon, whose whereabouts are unknown, had evidently been transported by Erhard Göpel, for Beckmann mentioned his prior visit to Frankfurt under 14 December 1943, when Göpel was visiting the Beckmanns.
The recent air raid on Frankfurt that Mathilde Beckmann mentions in the letter occurred on the night from 25 to 26 November 1943.
