Rental contract for Beckmann's flat and studio at Rokin 85, 1937
The rental contract that Max Beckmann concluded with the landlord J.J.F. de Haan from Doetinchem (Gelderland province) on August 1937 included the flat and studio at Rokin 85. The annual rent was set at 540 guilders. The contract initially had a term of one year as Beckmann regarded his time in Amsterdam as an interim phase and thought that he could settle in Paris at a later date. Following their arrival in the Netherlands, the Beckmanns initially lived at the Pension Bank at Beethovenstraat 89 in Amsterdam.
