A young person lies on the ground swathed in a blanket. The child’s eyes are closed and blood flows from its mouth. Its left arm is bent and reaches out from under the blanket. The ground is a brownish shade, the colour of the blanket changes as a result of the stark draping effect. Black and white sections are joined by patches of dark red and overtones of blue. There is an inscription in red against the jet black background. The painting is signed and dated at the bottom left: Jos. Scharl 1942.
