• Pétain, Philippe

    1856-1951, French military commander and politician. Pétain advanced  as Commander-in-Chief of the French army in World War One to become the “Hero of Verdun” and acted as head of state of the Vichy Regime from 1940 to 1944.
  • Placement Committee for German and Austrian Musicians

    Founded in New York in 1938 by the US composer Mark Brunswick (1902-1971), who had lived in Vienna from 1924 to 1938. This aid organisation helped with the emigration formalities for the USA and supported musicians after their arrival with funding and assistance in finding employment.

  • Preses, Peter

    1907-1961, Austrian actor and director, lived in exile in Britain from 1938, performed there in the cabaret Laterndl. Lived in exile in the U.S. from 1943, where he co-wrote the screenplay Der Bockerer with Ulrich Becher. Returned to Germany in 1946.
  • Pringsheim, Peter

    (1881-1963), physicist, brother of Katia Mann, exiled in Belgium, deported from there to an internment camp in France, 1940 flight to the US.
  • Protective Association for German Writers in Switzerland

    An organisation that provided writers who had emigrated to Switzerland with an organisational framework for their work in 1945 and in the years after the war.
